It’s not strictly accurate to say that I don’t drink as I’ve never been a fan of living by and believing in absolutes. I continue to have a pint on the anniversary of my fathers birth and death and very rarely I will enjoy a glass of wine to celebrate a significant event but for the most part I don’t consume alcohol, and this is why.
Its not rocket science, but I get asked about it a fair amount so here is a very rough and ready over view of how I develop an updatable, portable and search engine friendly navigation. I’m calling it the eclipse method because it relies on setting up the html and css so that when certain classes and sub classes align beautiful things happen.
My portfolio web site McCoy.co.uk is coming up for its ten years anniversary and I felt it would be interesting( for me at least) to look back at how I have developed my career as a web designer along side the web’s development. Maybe if I have a flash of inspiration I may get to hypothesis where we will both be in the future, and if we will both continue to make a living together.
Its a hopefully comic tale of near misses and mistakes with a few lucky breaks.
I will start at the beginning as its always a safe place to start and hope fully fill in the years as and when I feel inspired enough to attempt to write.
Sure it all started much earlier than I am documenting as a small boy with a ZX Spectrum and acne but everyone goes on about that stuff and its all a bit irrelevant, and could really have gone anywhere & nowhere.
It has become more and more evident to me that the long held belief that large companies often value their employees and suppliers less then their profits has spread like an insipid cancer to their apparent disregard for their customers. This approach is a dangerous one for the companies. Its dangers lye in the democratization of information on the internet. It is far more difficult to silence disgruntled consumers on the internet then it is in print, and with a little know how it is far easier for those disgruntled consumers to get their grievances under the noses of other would be consumers. This is why I am documenting my experience, and this is just one in many, and mothercare are not alone.
Quite recently I have had some very public and furious criticism and quite possibly the most cutting and hurtful was the criticism that revolves around my disability, with critics referring to me as ‘Thick’, ‘Illiterate’ & ’stupid’. All these points more hurtful because of the fact that they are inaccurate and are born out of ignorance, bigotry & a self serving desire to make themselves appear more intelligent at the expense of another.
I hope to in this article to explain my take on Dyslexia, recount some personal experiences and explain why public humiliation is not a good idea, my reasons for doing this are not only to get it all off my chest, move on and counter the stupidity but hopefully to illustrate to other people suffering from bigotry over a point of difference that they are not alone. Finally I hope to at least educate one or two would be perpetrators that it is not acceptable.
